We Are All Connected – Really. I have been thinking about death a lot lately (read down two posts) and this got me thinking about Lawrence Anthony. He died in 2012, and when I thought of him I decided to write a post about him and his connection. Most practitioners of core shamanism, as I explained in an earlier post, are animists. That is, we believe that spirit indwells all things. We also believe that we are all connected, or in the words of quantum physics, we are quantum entangled.
The following is an example of that kind of connection. You would have a hard time convincing me that the elephants read about Lawrence Anthony’s death in the paper. They knew that their friend had died because they were connected to him, just like all of us are connected . . . we just don’t pay attention to the subtle energy that connects us all.
At the time of his death his family reported that two herds of wild South African elephants slowly made their way for 12 hours through the Zululand bush in a solemn procession until they reached the house of late author and conservationist who saved their lives. For two days the herds hung out at Anthony’s rural compound on the vast Thula Thula game reserve in the South African KwaZulu – to say good-bye to the man they loved.
“A good man died suddenly,” says Rabbi Leila Gal Berner, Ph.D., “and from miles and miles away, two herds of elephants, sensing that they had lost a beloved human friend, moved in a solemn, almost ‘funereal’ procession to make a call on the bereaved family at the deceased man’s home.”
May we all be such people . . .
