I was watching one of my favorite YouTube music videos last night, Earth Warrior, by Omnia (below). Shamans are animists, we know that everything, and I mean everything not just living things, is imbued with spirit. I hope that causes us to love everything more deeply. While I do enjoy this video and appreciate its message I often wonder if being this kind of a warrior is counter productive. After all, violence leads to violence, hate leads to hate, discrimination leads to discrimination. When we put negative energy into something more negative energy comes out. But what if we put love in, filled the world with love, rather than increasing the low vibrational level that follows negative thoughts and actions? Here is a letter that Albert Einstein wrote to his daughter. It's not about physics, its about love: "When I proposed the theory of relativity, very few understood me, and what I will reveal now to transmit to mankind will also collide with the misunderstanding and prejudice in the world. "I ask you to guard the letters as long as necessary, years, decades, until society is advanced enough to accept what I will explain below. "There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others, and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE. "When scientists looked for a unified theory of the universe they forgot the most powerful unseen force. Love is Light, that enlightens those who give and receive it. Love is gravity, because it makes some people feel attracted to others. Love is power, because it multiplies the best we have, and allows humanity not to be extinguished in their blind selfishness. Love unfolds and reveals. For love we live and die. Love is God and God is Love. "This force explains everything and gives meaning to life. This is the variable that we have ignored for too long, maybe because we are afraid of love because it is the only energy in the universe that man has not learned to drive at will. "To give visibility to love, I made a simple substitution in my most famous equation. If instead of E = mc2, we accept that the energy to heal the world can be obtained through love multiplied by the speed of light squared, we arrive at the conclusion that love is the most powerful force there is, because it has no limits. "After the failure of humanity in the use and control of the other forces of the universe that have turned against us, it is urgent that we nourish ourselves with another kind of energy… "If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every sentient being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer. "Perhaps we are not yet ready to make a bomb of love, a device powerful enough to entirely destroy the hate, selfishness and greed that devastate the planet. "However, each individual carries within them a small but powerful generator of love whose energy is waiting to be released. "When we learn to give and receive this universal energy, dear Lieserl, we will have affirmed that love conquers all, is able to transcend everything and anything, because love is the quintessence of life. "I deeply regret not having been able to express what is in my heart, which has quietly beaten for you all my life. Maybe it's too late to apologize, but as time is relative, I need to tell you that I love you and thanks to you I have reached the ultimate answer! ". "Your father, "Albert Einstein" Please reread this paragraph: "If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every sentient being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer." Sometime I play "what-if" games with myself, they help me reason through actions before I take them. I have learned by watching others that thinking before acting usually leads to much better consequences than does acting first and then thinking about how to solve the newly created problems. How often do you see people follow the "Ready . . . Fire . . . Aim" paradigm? Anyway, here are some thought questions from my recent what-if games, and a few of my answers.
Shamanism isn't a violent path, it is a path of love, it is the path of the Heart Warrior. Being a shaman, living as a shaman, doesn't start in our brains. It starts in our hearts, hearts full of love love that motivates us to reduce pain and suffering around us. Being a shaman isn't like putting on a t-shirt for an hour a day that says, "I'm a Shaman". Its about living the path 24/7 every day. It isn't something you do, its something you are. Remember the dictum, "Think global, act local." It is good advice. Send your love to the world, employ your loving action around you. None of us can change the world alone. I know, I tried to do that for years working on development projects in underdeveloped countries. I failed, I didn't change the world, but I touched a few lives. [1] None of us can change the world alone, but if we work to bring love to our families, or neighborhoods, our towns and cities then working together we can raise the vibrational level of our little blue ball. Peace my friends, Dr. Dave Notes: [1] Here is one example. In the early 1970s I ran an adult literacy project among the Quechua speakers in Bolivia. Bolivia is a wonderful country and its constitution recognizes 37 different languages. One night as I was about to start the evening Spanish language adult literacy class one of the students, a man in his early 50s, came into the class with tears running down his cheeks. I was afraid that something horrible had happened. He was clutching a little piece of paper and as he hugged me he said, "I can read it! I can read a receipt!" You know how many words are on a receipt . . . not many. My initial mental response was, "That's nice, good for you, now sit down and let's get started." but then I realized that for him it was a really, really big deal. His life had changed because the scribbles on paper now had meaning. My investment in the two plus years that I spent in Bolivia on that assignment were repaid in that instant. Don't try to change the world, show love and change one life at a time, and start with yours.
